Josep-Lluís Carod-Rovira has been General Secretary of Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya since 1996. After his meeting with ETA in January 2004, he had to resign from his office as Prime Minister of the Catalan government and he received a ferocious offensive from the Partido Popular that governed the Spanish government.
The documentary focuses on the candidate’s campaign in the March 2004 general elections and gathers political meetings and sessions as well as more informal situations. After the terrorist attacks on the 11th March in Madrid, the election campaign came to a tragic stop and we therefore turned our attention to the general demonstrations against terrorism and against the ruling Partido Popular.
The splendid results that were obtained on the 14th March general elections, showed a widespread support from large parts of the Catalan nationalist electorate: with 600.000 votes, the Republican Left became the fourth biggest political force in the Spanish state.
